Will the shelter spay or neuter my adopted pet?
The shelter does not have an on-site veterinarian. However, we can provide you with contact information for local veterinary clinics that offer spay and neuter services.

What should I do if I'm having problems with a stray or an owned dog?
If you're experiencing issues with a stray dog or someone’s pet, please contact our office at (276) 228-6003. Leave a message, and we will return your call as soon as possible.

Is there a leash law in the county?
While there isn’t a leash law in the county, there is a running-at-large ordinance. (View Ordinance)

Does the shelter accept or pick up cats?
No, the shelter does not accept cats, nor do we pick them up.

Can you help me with wildlife problems?
For issues with wildlife, please contact the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources at their Wildlife Conflict Hotline: 1-855-571-9003.

When can I visit the shelter to see the dogs?
Shelter Hours:

  • Monday-Friday: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. (Closed for lunch from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m.)
  • Saturdays: By appointment only
  • Closed on Sundays and holidays

How much is a dog license?
Dog licenses are available for purchase at the Treasurer's Office.
